Training prog on use of women friendly tools for farm women
ITANAGAR, Jun 19: A one day training programme on use of women friendly tools in agriculture was organized today by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lower Dibang Valley at instructional farm of KVK based at Balek Village
Nanang Tamut (SMS Home Sc) briefed farm women/ farmers about advantages of using farm tools such as reducing of labour scarcity problems as well as health oriented problems like back ache, heart beat etc.
Besides this demonstration on farm tools (procured from ICAR Barapani, Shillong) such as Wheel Hoe for removing weeds in vegetable plots and Maize sheller (tubular) in Maize Shelling was also organized for the participants. Linning Tamut, Farm Manager and Dr. T J Ramesha Programme Coordinator also participated in the programme.

Minister collapses in office
AIZAWL, Jun 19: Mizoram minister for Sports and Urban development and poverty alleviation Zodintluanga was taken ill while working in his office this afternoon, official sources said.
At first the doctors suspected cardiac arrest or hypertension, but they later found that he was very tired due to heavy load of work and collapsed at around 4 pm, the sources said.
He was treated inside his office chamber by a team of doctors who also announced that the minister was out of danger. PTI
AAPKGBVTA calls off pen down strike
ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The All Arunachal Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Teachers’ Association (AAPKGBVTA) has decided to call off its ongoing pen down strike for six months.
In a release, it informed that the decision has been taken after it was assured by the education minister that the issue of enhancement of KGBV staff salary has already been taken up by the MHRD, GoI.
The minister had requested for the enhancement of KGBV staff salary to the high level officers from MHRD who came visiting recently to which the team assured of taking up the matter to the Union Sub Committee at the earliest, it said.
Meanwhile, the association has warned of resuming the strike if the demand is not fulfilled within six months.
Drive against illegal stone crushing units
PASIGHAT, Jun 19: Acting on the DC’s instruction, Assistant Mineral Development Officer (AMDO) A Komut with the help of Mebo ADC O Dai raided in Moruk area under Mebo subdivision and sealed four illegal stone crusher units.
The units which came under the scanner, violated govt. prescribed rules and they did not obtain legal permits from the competent authority to run their business, stated the Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra. He further informed that the owners/operators were asked several times to obtain legal permission from the district administration but they failed to do so. More such units in other areas in the district will also be treated as illegal and the administration will seal them shortly, he added. The DC instructed the AMDO to keep a vigil on such activities and warned of stern action against the illegal owners who are operating their businesses in the district. DIPRO

Over 700 patients benefited from free eye camp
Changlang, Jun 19: A Free Eye checkup cum Cataract Operation camp was conducted by Central Mobile Unit, National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB), Naharlagun at Diyun, a remote circle of Changlang district with the active cooperation of District Health Society (NPCB), Changlang and the Staffs of Diyun CHC. During the five day camp, over 760 patients were screened and treated with free medicine and 72 cases including 57 cataracts were operated by CMU team led by Dr. K.K. Deb and Dr. Taba Khanna. The other members of team were P.K. Behra, OT technician, D. Maity, PMOA, D. Bagra, PMOA, Gupa Das, PMOA, Bamin Ampi, PMOA and R.P. Sharma, NA. The team also examined and assessed Children With Special Needs (CWSN) of Changlang district and necessary certification done as desired by the District Administration. The Central Mobile Unit, NPCB will continue to conduct such camps in the different parts of the state in its effort to reduce blindness burden of Arunachal Pradesh.
Orgs recommend magisterial enquiry into death of a youth
ZIRO, Jun 19: A mediatory meeting was held at the office chamber of Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Marnya Ete here today on the recent incident which led to the death of a youth Kapu Tajam at Ziro. The meeting presided over the the DC was attended by Nyishi Elite Society President Bengia Tollum, All Nyishi Students Union President Sikka Gapak, Apatani Cultural and Literary Society president Dr. Hage Tam, Lower Subansiri Zilla Parishad Chairperson Hage Kobing and community elders and they univocally condemned the incident and termed the loss of young Tajam and subsequent burial at site of incident as unfortunate. It recommended for a magisterial enquiry to unravel the truth behind the death of late Tajam. It also opined that law should be allowed to take its own course regardless of community. The organizations appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquility and refrain from spreading rumour saying it would aggravate the situation.
It is said that all accused were arrested soon after the incident and they have been sent to judicial remand. Among others, Deputy SP, ANSU members and community elders were present in the meeting.

AAPSU regrets the act of vandalism
ITANAGAR, Jun 19: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today expressed regret over the recent vandalization of NRL Petrol depot by group of unknown miscreants.
AAPSU President Kamta Lapung clarified that fake slip in the name of AAPSU General Secretary was used to take fuel and there was no signature of its GS in the slip and also the abbreviation of AAPSU was incomplete when examined by the AAPSU on the spot. Lapung further added that AAPSU is planning to strictly deal with that person involved in the incident. Lapung said "Tony Pertin is a respected person of Arunachal but at least he should first inform the AAPSU or to him before using social networking site like facebook to put bad remark on AAPSU.
AAPSU President further told that the Union is for whole Arunachal people and works for the betterment of the student community. He urges the higher authority that Pertin’s NRL Petrol depot must be properly verified and also appeals Pertin not to fight for a refugee from Bhutan. Instead, he appeals Pertin to fight for the cause of Arunachal people and not to damage the image of AAPSU.
"If this thing happens again and no cooperation from the Tony Pertin received, AAPSU will launch boycott movement against the NRL Petrol pump, as there is provision of 12.5 per cent help from the company side to the social activists for social works,” Kamta Lapung said.
AAPSU President also warned those organizations who are using PRC issue as their issue for self profit. He told that PRC is one of Union’s major issue taken up from the past and still fighting for it for the welfare of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
Violence not solution to any problem: BJP
ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh expresses deep shock over the violent attack and ransacking of NRL Petrol pump near Naharlagun on Monday. Violence is not the solution to any problem in a civilized society and it is unhealthy for those in the management of an organizational set up for the noble purposes, the party said.
The apex body of students has important role to play in the fast changing society and they are supposed to be tomorrow’s guardians of the state and nation, and the society has high hope on the younger generations, the BJP said adding “because of some individuals the apex body of the students need not be allowed to misdirect the society.”
“It once again has established that the Judiciary and Executive tangle makes Arunachal Pradesh a safe heaven for the miscreants and even hard core criminals,’’ the party said in a release. The Party further said most of the time state police are alone to be blamed for the slip off, however, closer look shows that the ineffective and rot system is the root cause helping even those of hard core criminals to get away. It is high time CM Nabam Tuki led state Congress Govt should open its eyes and sense the gravity of the deteriorating law and order situations, the BJP said.
The Party also wanted to know why the state Govt should not have separate Home Minister.

DC conducts unannounced visit to schools
PASIGHAT, Jun 19: Taking out some times from his busy schedule, the Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra today made unannounced inspection to schools. He visited four schools namely Paglek and Town Middle schools, Gandhi and SFS (Pvt) Secondary schools during the day and interacted with the teachers and students.
While interacting with the teachers and students, Mishra said that the government is making all out efforts for making sure that best education infrastructure is available and adequate staff is posted in the schools. He gave some educational tips to them and further stated that “The present era is era of competition and teachers have multifaceted role to play, on one hand they have to impart quality education and on the other parents are to be approached and motivated for making sure that students are sent to school on regular basis”.
In his message to the parents, he appealed to ensure that their children attend schools regularly and they are progressing well in their studies, adding that constant motivation and monitoring at home is very important in child education. DIPRO

Most species at risk from climate change
Most species at greatest risk from climate change are not currently conservation priorities, finds an IUCN study that introduces a pioneering method to assess the vulnerability of species to climate change. The paper, published in the journal PLOS ONE, is one of the biggest studies of its kind, assessing all of the world's birds, amphibians and corals. It draws on the work of more than 100 scientists over a period of five years.
Up to 83 per cent of birds, 66 per cent of amphibians and 70 per cent of corals that were identified as highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change are not currently considered threatened with extinction on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. They are therefore unlikely to be receiving focused conservation attention, according to the study.
Up to nine percent of all birds, 15 per cent of all amphibians and nine percent of all corals that were found to be highly vulnerable to climate change are already threatened with extinction. These species are threatened by unsustainable logging and agricultural expansion but also need urgent conservation action in the face of climate change, according to the authors.
The study's novel approach looks at the unique biological and ecological characteristics that make species more or less sensitive or adaptable to climate change. Conventional methods have focussed largely on measuring the amount of change to which species are likely to be exposed. IUCN will use the approach and results to ensure The IUCN Red List continues to provide the best possible assessments of extinction risk, including due to climate change.
Confusion continues

This is with reference to letter published in your esteemed daily by Taring Mama acting chairperson of Arunachal citizens Right (ACR). As per his knowledge one individual can avail both ST and Minority privileges. As per my observation it is impossible. Through the RTI, we found some interesting information from department of social justice, empowerment and tribal affair Government of Arunachal Pradesh. We had asked, constitutionally if an ST converts to any religion will he/she remain ST?
The reply by the department was yes. But a person can obtain benefit either from ST or Minority and there should not be duplicity. For instance Indira Awas Yojna house scheme. If a person gets benefit under IAY from Minority status, he/she should not get benefit of IAY from any other source as a ST. But as per the statement made by the Arunachal citizen rights Acting Chairperson one individual can avail both ST and Minority privileges. A big confusion is whether the department or Government runs ACR. The social organization must always fight for the public service and indigenous people. They should not work as the government agency. Government has several agencies to reply the public grievances and we should let them answer our question.
ACR was a strong social organization in late 2004. If we look back, the Arunachal Citizens Right leader’s fought for public cause and they were the one to file PIL against the government for Rs 1000 Corers PDS scam. Therefore we respect such type of strong organization.
In India minority includes Muslim, Sikhs, Christian and Zoroastrian have been notified as minority communities under section 2(c) of the national commission for minorities Act 1992. Under article 30(1) of the constitution uses linguistics and religious believe for identifying minority.
• The four districts of Arunachal Pradesh which have both low socio economic
and basic amenities parameters have been has been selected under Category ‘A’ minority.

• Another sub category B1 list of District which have socio economic parameter below national average are Tawang, West kameng and Papum Pare. Tawang District has buddhist population of 29,083 and Sikhs 420 which means in total 78 percent citizen comes under Minority, West Kameng Buddhist population is 33,104 therefore total 47 percent people comes under minority and in Papum pare Christian population is 36,574 total which means 33% of citizen are minority.
On the above percentage, who will be called as the minority? Most of Christian believer are indigenous people and Buddhist follower are also tribal. They all are enjoying facilities as schedule tribe status.
In Papum Pare, Lower subansiri and East kameng district tribes like Nyishi, Apatani, Aka and Miji resides. Some of these populations are the believer of the Christianity. Will they be counted as minority or ST in Arunachal Pradesh? And who are the minority in these districts?

We all need to unite and stand up together
Dear Editor,
I am overwhelmed by the response of the public in my fight against the atrocities unleashed by the activists of AAPSU. This means I am no longer alone in this fight against injustice. For how long shall we tolerate being bullied and intimidated? For how long shall we keep quiet and ignore all these atrocities? How they expect me to give free fuel to them? If they are indeed on real AAPSU duty on behalf of the State, can`t they have atleast the courtesy to make a request? Many have suffered the same fate before me and in order to prevent that from happening to anyone else in future, we all need to rise up, united and peacefully. Everybody has had enough. If this habit of taking away other’s goods and materials for free is imbibed in our young Arunachalees, how appropriate would it be to call them “OUR FUTURE”? All that I have done is raised my voice against the misdeeds of the activists of AAPSU and they, on the other hand, have resorted to violence. For how long shall the violence keep our mouth shut?

public importance and directly relates to the well-
I am currently out of station owing to my duties as a father and the incident had taken place in my absence. I am not in a position to come back to Itanagar right away as my duty are not yet over but I shall be back very shortly. My properties have been damaged and ransacked, money looted and records destroyed but my children’s education, career and future has drawn my priority as the authority shall take care of the perpetrators of violence as a case has been registered.
I appeal to all the people of Arunachal Pradesh, especially the civil societies and young students, to raise and keep standing behind me as I take on this resistance against such atrocity and injustice, not only for me but for everyone concerned and for the whole of Arunachal Pradesh. We all need to unite and stand up together.

The ugly incident of AAPSU member ransacking NRL petrol depot has got huge publicity. Most of the capital based newspaper has given prominent space to this incident. It shows the biasness of state media. As it involved wealthy and rich person like Mr Tony Pertin and powerful organization like AAPSU media is giving it importance. Everyday small shop owners are bullied in various parts of state by local goons but media never reports about it. Poor and helpless people are suffering daily but no media persons highlight their plight. I myself had sent letters to the editor many times but it hardly get published. Am a poor and unknown person, so may be media person are neglecting me. Remember Arunachal is not only about AAPSU and Mr Pertin. Do you media persons ever visit interior place and report difficult situation people facing there. Arunachal media only cares about capital complex and its citizen. If such biasness continues, I will stop subscribing local newspaper.
